Prior to starting the research consultancy Janus, Howard Shimmel was Chief Research Officer at Turner, where he oversaw all multi-screen entertainment, news, kids and sports research, as well as corporate analysis and insight-led efforts. In partnership with Turner Ad Sales’ Turner Ignite team, Shimmel oversaw the 2016 launch of Turner Ad Lab, conceived to advise on linear and digital video ad experience. Before that role, he was senior VP of ad sales and sports research, leading TV and digital research analysis and strategy support for the news, entertainment, animation, young adults & kids and sports advertising sales units. He had previously served as Nielsen Media & Advertising Analytics’ executive VP responsible for building an advanced analytic business focused on issues including cross-platform analytics, advanced media targeting, promotion effectiveness and ROI measurement for media companies, agencies and advertisers. He has held leadership roles at The Nielsen Company, AOL, WBIS and MTV Networks and as president of Symmetric Resources.
